My name is Bailey Nelson and I’m from Pierre! Throughout high school I was involved in FBLA, best buddies, competitive dance, football, sideline cheer, boys and girls basketball sideline cheer, the gov to gov mentoring program and working at the local Zesto.

This fall I will be attending Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown for a degree in Ag Business. Upon graduation I plan to return to the Pierre/Fort Pierre area where I will work alongside my father in operating our family’s ranch.

I have lived in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area all my life. Throughout high school I have been involved in Clay Target League, National Honor Society and FFA. Outside of school I have been involved in volunteer work as an acolyte at Faith Lutheran Church and I have also done volunteer work for the Fort Pierre Chamber of Commerce. My hobbies including hunting and fishing and generally spending time outdoors.

I plan to pursue a degree for Ag Business from Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown this fall. After graduating I will come back to my family’s ranch where I plan to work alongside my father.

In high school I participated in Clay Target League, FFA and National Honor Society. I also regularly volunteer for the Fort Pierre Chamber of Commerce and volunteer at Faith Lutheran Church as an acolyte. Besides clay target shooting my main interests are hunting and fishing which I do as often as possible.

I plan to attend South Dakota State University and major in engineering.

I am one of three children in my family. I live with my younger brother, Joe, my little sister, Zoe and my parents Corey and Katie Sayler. I was born in Pierre on February 15, 202. I have lived in Mellette County in the town of White Rive for my entire life. Throughout my years of high school I have participated and excelled in as many activities, athletics and clubs as possible. I was actively involved in basketball, football, track, band, choir, National Honor Society, Tiger TV (sports broadcast) LNI quiz bowl/knowledge bowl, Region Honor Band and TATU (Teens against tobacco use). In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, fishing and playing video games.

Attend Laramie Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming studying Ag Business and Animal Science.

I have been a member of the Stanley County girls basketball team for five years starting varsity for four of those years and selected as the defensive player of the year for 2018-2019. I am also a member of the Spanish National Honor Society and been on the honor roll. I have also been a member of the Pierre/Fort Pierre High School Rodeo team for four years qualifying for state finals the past three years in multiple events and ending the year in eighth place in team roping for the sate. I have participated in the Twenty X Black Hills Stock Show in goat tying and team roping. I have been a member of 4-H for nine years and participated in the State 4-H Finals in various events and won the Jr Girls Breakaway Saddle. I help my parents on grandparents on their ranch with calving, riding colts and haying.

Next year I will be attending SDSU to pursue a human biology major. After that, my goal is graduate and move onto dental school.

I was born in Pierre 18 years ago and I have loved every minute of it. In school I was involved in student council, yearbook, National Honor Society, soccer and basketball. My outside school activities included dancing at Sarah’s dance studio, volunteering with Special Olympics, hanging out with friend and doing anything outdoors. Growing up in Pierre, students at Riggs have always had the community’s support and I am so thankful for that and I will always be proud to be from Pierre.

I will be attending Casper College in Casper Wyoming on a college rodeo scholarship. I plan to pursue a degree in Secondary Education. I would like to be a high school science teacher.

I am the daughter of Scott and Sue Van Liere. I have one younger brother, Shawn. I have been active in 4H, 4H rodeo, high school rodeo and SDRA rodeos. I’ve been in track for 4 years and was the student manager for the Gov’s football team for 2 years. I also like babysitting, cooking, hunting and being on the water.

I plan to move to Mitchell to work in the butcher shop. I want to be a butcher and have my own shop someday.

I am the youngest son of Virgil and Teresa Whetsel. I was born in Watertown where I lived until 2013 when we moved to Arlington. In 2018 the family moved again to Miller. I love to spend time at the family cabin. My oldest brother wants to own a BBQ restaurant and I hop to have a butcher shop so I can provide all the meat for the restaurant.

I will be attending Kansas State University to play volleyball for the Wildcats but I am still undecided in my major.

I am the daughter of Kelly and Shawn Fernholz. I have an older brother Steven and younger brother Spencer. I attended Miller school for all 12 years and I am a member of the National Honor Society and involed in MHS band/flag corps, choir, volleyball, basketball and track.

I plan to attend Dakota State University this fall for four years where I will major in Digital Sound Design, plus minor in Photography and Art. I also plan to be a member of Dakota State’s pep band and choir while participating in provided intramural sports. With this degree, I hope to find an entry-level job in the music industry where I will assist in recording and producing today’s popular music.

I have been involved in many activities including volleyball, track, band, chorus and yearbook. I have also been active in student council, National Honor Society and the Youth for Christ community group. My goal is to live in Los Angeles where I can have new adventures and gain new life experiences. I am the daughter of Clark and Lisa Guthmiller.

I will be attending basic training for SD Army National Guard in June. Following basics, I will go to specialist school. After completion of that, I will attend Northern State University to major in business.

I have always lived in Presho and always attended Lyman schools. I was active in wrestling, cross country, track, band, choir, oral interpretation, student council and National Honor Society. I have 1 brother, Ian and two sisters, Sarah and Emily. My parents are Scott and Julie Muirhead.

I will attend SDSU to study Sports and Recreation Management or business.

My name is Brad Lebeda and I attend Lyman High School. I am the son of Larry and Kym Lebeda of Presho. I have been involved in track, basketball, Cross Country, Student Council, band and choir while at Lyman. I have been varsity cross country runner since 7th grade and a state medalist for two years in cross country. I am also a 6th place high jumper at the state track meet last year.

I am a member of the National Honor Society and have been involved in sports my entire high school career. I have been a start on the Governor Football team for two years and proud to have been apart of the state championships we’ve won three consecutive years.

While in high school, I was a member of the volleyball team, gymnastics team, and track team for all four years of high school. High school has given me some of the best memories I could have ever imagined, along with friendships that I hope will last forever! It is incredibly sad that our year got cut short but I wouldn’t trade the few years T.F. Riggs has given me for anything in the world!

Next year I plan to attend Black Hills State University for environmental science. School is very important to me and I am excited to continue my education at BH. I plan to get involved and join a few or the many organizations BH has to offer. My goal for my future is to find a job that allows me to make a positive difference in the planet’s health.

My name is Maria Noyes and I am a senior at T.F. Riggs High School. In high school I am involved in the Governor to Governor Mentoring Program, Student Senate, National Honors Society, and I have also been a Pierre wrestling manager all four years of high school. My extracurricular activities include the Pierre Youth Orchestra and Lutheran Youth Fellowship. During the summer I am a life guard at the Ft. Pierre pool. I will be paying for the majority of my college education due to some medical expenses in my family. Thank you for this scholarship opportunity!

I am planning on attending the University of North Dakota to major in athletic training. I eventually would like to go on to medical school from there.

I am involved in Gov 2 Gov, national honor society, and student athletic training. I have also been a gymnast for the governor gymnastics team since sixth grade and continue my love for the sport by coaching youth gymnastics.

I am a senior who has been working two jobs during high school so I would be able to attend college. In my spare time I will be doing online schooling, playing Resident Evil 3 remake, or watching Jenna Marbles on YouTube. I work at Walmart which is kind of stressful during this pandemic, but I also work at Movie Mania which is not bad because I can watch Star Wars which is my favorite movie series.

I will be attending Westpoint in New York. My plan is to study Constitutional Law and Psychology with a minor in Arabic. After school, I plan on continuing into the Army as a JAG officer.

I grew up in Pierre the youngest of three. I loved hunting, fishing, and playing on the river. I had great teachers and feel blessed by the community of Pierre. Everyone is so kind and the charity work I did brought me to love the community I grew up in. Though I’m moving, it will always be my home.

In high school I was in basketball, volleyball, FFA, FBLA, NHS, and was a statistician in track. In school my favorite things to do were play current events games, be a teachers aide for 5th grade, read The Yearling, and go to Mrs. Knox’s room for mini concerts during study hall. I have been a member of the Pierre Swim Team for the past 10 years. I was a member of the 2019 Free and Medley Relay State Champion teams as well as a 2019 and 2020 Speedo Sectionals qualifier. I participated in golf for five years and I am a meber of the National Honor Society and a 2020 PEF Scholar of Excellence.

I was born on January 30, 2002 in the Spearfish Regional Hospital. Me and my family moved to Onida in 2004. I have three half-brothers and one half-sister. I became an aunt in 2009. I have attended several camps in the past where I made new friends. I have been looking forward to attending BHSU since 2019.

I dance and teach at a local studio in town. I love to spend time with my family and friends. My favorite winter activity is to go snowboarding in the Black Hills and my favorite summer activity is to be on the water with my friends/family! I am currently a nursing assistant at Avera Maryhouse in town. I love working with individuals and helping them with all their needs. I hope to someday become an ER nurse to provide care for everyone.

Plans to attend South Dakota State University. Study in the field of Psychology and Business.

Honors/Awards:
Led the South Dakota national hockey team to a national title as team captain. He was voted as the youngest captain in OAHE varsity hockey history by teammates and coaches, and voted again his Junior and Senior year. Nominated for the ice hockey Sportsmanship of the Year Award three consecutive years by referees and coaches state-wide. Awarded the Hobey Baker Award for the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association Senior year. Crowned Mr. Pierre High School Junior year. Voted Homecoming Royalty Senior year.
Volunteer work:
Rapid City Rush Development Camp, one-on-one private hockey lessons, Oahe hockey student-led practices, co-coordinator of the Freshman Retreat.
Community involvement:
140+ hours of community service between August 2018 and December 2019, Summer Recreation, Steele Summer Camp, EXPO Center set up and tear down, made tie blankets with the ELF Squad, suicide prevention training, and multiple food drives.
School activities:
Governor to Governor mentorship program, football manager and videographer, led tours for middle schoolers entering the high school, Mr. PHS, Homecoming Royalty, English tutor (2018-2020), football team, Prom Committee, blood drive, tennis team, photography, and Yearbook.

Attend Dakota State University in Madison to pursue a degree in computer science and cyber operations.

During high school, I was a member of the Rustler Robotics team, and the cross country and track teams. I was also a member of the Miller Swim Club qualifying for the state swim meet five times. I was also very active in concert, marching band and chorus. I participated in All State Choir and Augustana Honor Band. I also traveled with South Dakota Music Ambassadors to Europe in the summer of 2019.

I plan to attend university of Hawaii and major in communications.

I am outgoing and fun. I really miss going to school and seeing my friends for my last year but safely is the most important thing. I can’t wait until “graduation” this year haha. Pierre has been my home growing up and cannot thank it enough for everything it’s done for me.

I am attending South Dakota State University and majoring in human biology towards a pre-medicine degree. I will also be participating in Air Force Reserved Officer Training Corps. I’m planning to become an obstetrician/gynecologist and serve as an officer in the Air Force.

In high school I’ve been involved in competitive cheer, gymnastics, softball, the spring plays, concert, marching, and jazz band and I was even the drum major this year, governor-to-governor program, national honor society, a member of St Peter & Paul Catholic Church, youth group, and religious education.

My plan is to go to Rapid SD to learn how to do nails for 3 months and than go to Fargo ND to become a barber after 9 months.

I don’t know how many times I have changed what I wanted to be through my high school years but last year I decided I wanted to be a barber along with the rest of my family. After my grandpa passed suddenly I wanted to carry on his legacy of being a great barber. I’m excited to take his spot back at our Barber shop in Pierre SD along with my grandma, dad, and brother.

I enjoy spending my time volunteering, playing in my drum group Sheltered Reality, participating in school activities, and spending time with my family. In my school activities, I’ve participated in the One-Act and Spring Plays, FCCLA (currently the chapter president), and cheerleading.

I am planning on working in the law enforcement field. My plan is to start at the jail or South Dakota women’s prison to learn some experience until I can be a police officer at the age of 21.

I am the oldest of seven siblings. I’ve lived my whole life in Pierre. I enjoy fishing and hunting. My parents are Kelly and Cathie Llamas.

I am the son of Brian and Becky Walsh. I have successfully navigated through my high school career participating in track, soccer, basketball, intramural sports and National Honor Society. My plans are to attend Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, SD for diagnostic medical sonography (ultrasounds).

I have lived in Miler my whole life. I love to learn, travel, and have fun. During these hard times, I have been lucky enough to been able to work as much as I can at Turtle Creek Steakhouse as well as stay caught up with all of my online schooling. This year has been a roller coaster, so in the future I’m hoping for some peace of mind for everyone. I have been looking forward to my senior year for what feels like forever, so I guess it came to an end faster than any of us thought it would. All we can do is move forward, and I’m anxious in doing so with entering into a new part of my life soon.

I plan to attend South Dakota State University for Early Childhood/Elementary Education with hopes in becoming a Kindergarten or Preschool teacher.

My parents are Brian and Lindsey Cain, and I have three brothers, Jason, Jeramy, and Jordan. I am going to attend SDSU this fall for early childhood/elementary education. Throughout high school, I participated in basketball sideline cheerleading since my freshman year, and was the captain for the 2019-2020 season. I participated in dance since I was 5 years old. To help my community, I have had many experiences with community service, including a “Beau Keeter Give Back Day”, and helping decorate my local church for the Christmas seasons. I am an active member in CCD and CYO at my local Catholic Church, as well.

 

Jacey Miller

Lyman High School

I plan to attend the University of South Dakota to acquire a bachelor degree in dental hygiene.

I have lived in Kennebec, SD my entire life with my parents, Brian and Debbie, my two brothers, and my sister. I have participated in Volleyball, Basketball, Student Council, Band, National Honor Society, Basketball Cheer, Football Stat, and have worked at our local grocery store the past five years.

 

Reid Wieczorek

Stanley County High School

Attend SDSU and become a high school math teacher.

I have attended Stanley County for 12 years, being active in football, wrestling, track and band all throughout high school. I was a state qualifier in wrestling two years and track three years. I am active in National Honor Society and I am the class valedictorian and was selected as homecoming king.

 

Jaydn Wilcox

T.F. Riggs High School

Attend University of Nebraska-Lincoln to begin my journey to become a Physical Therapist

I have grown up in Pierre and started kindergarten at McKinley Elementary. I have ran cross country and track since 6th grade. During high school I competed on the LNI knowledge bowl team all 4 years of high school. I also enjoyed being a Gov2Gov Mentor during high school.

Stanley County High School

Attend SDSU majoring in Dentistry

I have been active in Volleyball and Basketball all through high school earning recognition as All Conference Teams in both sports. I am a National Honor Society member. I enjoy spending time with my friends and being on the river spending time with my family.

 

Ruth Howard

T.F. Riggs High School

Attend SDSU to major within the medical field.

During high school, I was president of National Honor Society, president of Spanish club, and involved in many other extracurriculars, such as National Honor Society, FBLA, tutoring, and volunteering.

 

Paige Brandt

T.F. Riggs High School

Attend Northern State University and major in Elementary Education.

Daughter of Kelly and Lisa Brandt. I have two older sisters, a brother-in-law, and a younger brother. I have been involved with the competitive dance team for four years. I am involved in national honors society, governor to governor program, competitive cheer, and sideline cheer for two years. I also have been involved in track for four years. I have been involved in youth bowling program for eleven years, including being on the travel team bowling for two years.

To attend Mitchell Tech and major in Human Services.

I have been involved in volleyball and work at Pizza Ranch in Fort Pierre.
